Loxone Weather Station

A gust of wind catches the terrace awning at a hotel while nobody is outside. External blinds at home stay down during a storm because everyone is at work. In a care home, the south-facing lounge overheats on sunny afternoons while the blinds wait for someone to lower them. Weather changes faster than people can react.

The Loxone Weather Station gives the Miniserver live weather data measured at the building itself. Wind speed, brightness, rainfall and outdoor temperature are recorded on site, so the building can respond to the actual conditions outside.

What it does

Blinds and awnings can be retracted automatically in strong wind, motorised windows can be closed when it starts to rain, and shading can respond to real sunlight rather than a fixed timetable. A storm warning is raised above a wind speed you choose.

A heater in the rain sensor stops condensation from being mistaken for rain and dries the sensor after a shower. A 10-year Loxone Weather Service subscription is included, adding forecasts to the measured data.

Good to know

Tree or Air: Tree is wired for power and data; Air runs on a 10–30 V DC supply or two AA batteries.

On batteries the Air version needs no electrical work, but its rain sensor heater stays off, so condensation can register as rain, and the storm threshold is set on a dial on the station; decide up front whether it will run on batteries or a DC supply, as switching later means setting it up again. The Tree version, and the Air version on DC, need a cable to the mounting position, fitted by a qualified electrician, which our installation partner can arrange.

It is fixed to a wall or a mast with the bracket supplied and must sit exactly level. A spot around 1.5 m above the roof, or the middle of a flat roof, keeps the readings clear of turbulence from the building; temperature and brightness may need a separate spot out of direct sun. Loxone advises against fitting it close to the sea, because salt in the air can corrode the rain sensor.
