Overview

Lights left on in an empty meeting room. A hotel corridor lit at full brightness all night. Heating running in a care home lounge long after residents have gone to bed. At home, a dark landing on the way to the bathroom at night. All of these come down to the same thing: the building does not know whether anyone is there.

The Loxone Presence Sensor Air answers that question. Mounted on the ceiling, it detects people in the room and measures brightness, so lighting, heating and other functions can respond to how spaces are actually used.

What it does

A passive infrared sensor with a 360° detection field registers presence and movement, while the integrated light sensor makes sure lights only come on when it is actually dark enough to need them. The same sensor can also act as an intrusion detector within the Loxone alarm system. When it is externally powered, it can additionally detect sound in the room.

Central management, comfort and energy

  • Less waste: lights and heating can switch off or set back when rooms, corridors and stairwells are empty.
  • Comfort and safety: a lit path at night on stairs, landings and corridors, without anyone looking for a switch.
  • Insight: occupancy information is available centrally, alongside the rest of the building.
  • Flexible placement: wireless, so it can be fitted where it works best rather than where a cable happens to be.

Good to know

The sensor connects via Loxone Air to a Miniserver Go, or to a Miniserver with an Air Base Extension. It runs on two AA batteries (included) or on a 9–30 V DC supply; sound detection needs the external supply. A cover sticker is included to limit the detection area where required.

You can order it here. If you prefer, The Automation House can also advise on it, plan it and supply it as part of a complete solution, with installation and aftercare arranged through our installation partner.

Pros & cons

Our view on this product

What we like

  • On batteries, no cable to the ceiling is needed
  • Motion, brightness and (with 24 V) presence in one sensor
  • Can also be used as a detector for the Loxone alarm

Worth knowing

  • On batteries it detects motion and brightness only; continuous presence and sound detection need a 9–30 V DC supply
  • Needs a Miniserver Go or an Air Base Extension
  • Can also detect some pets

Works with

You need a Miniserver Go, or a Miniserver with an Air Base Extension, to use this sensor.

Questions

Questions about your building? Get in touch

Do I need a Miniserver for this sensor?

Yes. It connects wirelessly to a Miniserver Go, or to a Miniserver with an Air Base Extension. It does not work on its own.

Can I fit it myself?

On batteries, mounting is simple: fix the mounting ring to the ceiling, insert the two AA batteries (included) and attach the sensor. It then needs pairing and setting up in the Loxone system, which we can do for you. If you want to power it from a 24 V supply, that wiring should be done by a qualified installer.

How long do the batteries last?

Loxone does not publish a fixed battery life, because it depends on how the sensor is used. The system shows the battery level and warns you when the standard AA batteries need replacing.

Can it be used in a care home bedroom?

Yes. It can switch a soft night light when a resident gets up, or let heating follow whether a room is in use. It detects movement with a passive infrared sensor and, when powered at 24 V, sound levels. It has no camera. It is not a medical or fall-detection device. If you are planning this for a care setting, we are happy to talk it through.
