Overview
Lights left on in an empty meeting room. A hotel corridor lit at full brightness all night. Heating running in a care home lounge long after residents have gone to bed. At home, a dark landing on the way to the bathroom at night. All of these come down to the same thing: the building does not know whether anyone is there.
The Loxone Presence Sensor answers that question. Mounted on the ceiling, it gives the Miniserver the information it needs so lighting, heating and other functions can respond to how spaces are actually used.
What it does
A passive infrared sensor with a 360° field of view detects movement, and a brightness sensor lets lights come on only when it is dark enough to need them. When the sensor is wired or runs on a DC supply, a microphone also picks up the small sounds of someone sitting still, which helps keep the lights on for a person reading or working. In a very quiet room, someone sitting completely still can still go undetected.
The same sensor can also act as a detector for the Loxone alarm system, and on a permanent supply a sound-level alarm can raise a notification when a room gets unusually loud, which can be useful in corridors and communal areas.
Good to know
Tree or Air: Tree is wired and always offers every function; Air is wireless, and on batteries it detects motion and brightness only.
With the Air version, decide up front whether it will run on batteries or a DC supply: it is set up for one or the other, and switching later means setting it up again. On batteries it needs no electrical work; a DC supply, like the Tree version, needs a cable to the ceiling position. Lens stickers are included to mask detection zones. Available in White and Anthracite.
You can order it here. If you prefer, The Automation House can also advise on it, plan it and supply it as part of a complete solution, with installation and aftercare arranged through our installation partner.

Pros & cons
Our view on this product
What we like
- 360° coverage from a single ceiling sensor
- Presence detection (Tree, or Air on DC power) helps keep lights on for people sitting still
- Brightness sensor so lighting responds to daylight
- Can also act as a detector for the Loxone alarm system
Worth knowing
- The Air version on batteries detects motion and brightness only, not presence or sound
- Battery life of the Air version is not stated by Loxone
- Changing the Air version between battery and DC power means setting it up again
- It can also detect some pets; sensitivity can be reduced, but pets cannot be excluded
- The Tree version, and the Air version on DC power, need a cable to the ceiling position
